Suzuki Method

Suzuki method music instruction is based on the natural way that we learned to speak our native language as infants.

  1. Language: We listened to people speaking in our environment.

  2. Music:         We listen to the recording of the music at home.

  3. Language: Our first words were simple and short imitations.

  4. Music:         Our first lessons use simple and short activities.

  5. Language:  Our early attempts were met with praise from our parents.

  6. Music:         Our teachers recognize and praise our small improvements.

  7. Language:   We built vocabulary by repeating words in different contexts.

  8. Music:         We review pieces to recognize their patterns in new pieces.

  9. Language:  We learned to tell stories before we could read books.

  10. Music:         We learn music by ear and introduce note reading later.

  11. Language:  We use language to communicate in society.

  12. Music:         We attend group class to learn to play together.

  13. Language:  Our first teachers were our parents.

  14. Music:        Our parents act as our “home teacher” to help us practice.
